A diagnosis of cancer is difficult and downright scary. The person receiving the diagnosis immediately starts wondering how it will affect my life and my family. The family surrounding the person starts contemplating what they can do to be supportive and helpful during treatment. As a cancer survivor, I have my own memories and experiences and I know my diagnosis affected all those that love and care for me. My diagnosis was for Hodgkin’s disease and with the help of many people I successfully completed 12 chemotherapy sessions. I am a little more than two years out of treatment and am doing very well.

Hendricks Regional Health YMCA’s Gobble Gallop 5k is a close comparison to running a true IRONMAN in the Delgado home.  Getting the turkey in the oven (comparable to a 2.4-mile swim), strategically baking, steaming, or boiling every side dish including dessert (comparable to a 112-mile bicycle ride), and last but not least, chasing, coloring, dancing, exercising, swinging, singing, screaming, breastfeeding, and snacking with an 8.5-month-old and almost 2.5-year-old (comparable to a 26.2-mile run).

My Experience Taking a Post Partum Pilates Class

The Physical Therapy department at the Hendricks Regional Health YMCA offers a post partum pilates program to assist new moms in regaining whole body strength, especially core strength as well as improving posture often negatively impacted from pregnancy and caring for a newborn.
