The opening of the new Hendricks Regional Health YMCA in Avon has opportunities galore to improve the lives of you and your loved ones. If youíre anything like me, running around after everyone else leaves little time to take care of you, especially when it comes to your health. For folks dealing with a medical issue like high blood pressure or diabetes, juggling healthcare needs gets even trickier.

We all know that we need to move more and probably make healthier food choices (think two cookies, rather than the whole bagÖ), reduce the amount of stress in our lives, etc. But gee whiz, where do you even start? Or maybe youíve started and stopped and started and stopped and you worry that youíll never make a permanent change.

Youíre not alone. Here's where your own healthcare superhero can help! At Hendricks Regional Health, we call these superheroes clinical health managers.

How can a clinical health manager benefit me?
A clinical health manager is a registered nurse that will support you in making healthy lifestyle changes. They work directly with your family doctor, a Hendricks Regional Health dietitian and other healthcare professionals to create personalized goals that fit with your doctor's plan of care. For example, your doctor may have recommended you lose weight, stop smoking or take prescribed medications regularly. Our team of wellness experts provide a supportive environment to help you achieve these goals and more. Just think of us as the wind beneath your wings (or cape)!

What is the criteria for signing up?
Signing up for a consultation with a clinical health manager is recommended if you have been diagnosed with high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol levels, or a chronic disease such as diabetes. It is also a good fit if your doctor has prescribed healthy lifestyle changes such as weight loss.

How does it work?
Services begin in late July, and getting started is simple. If you meet the criteria, simply call (317) 718-2956 to schedule your first consultation. A doctor's referral is not required. You don't have to be a YMCA member to use clinical health management services.

The time commitment is minimal for these services. Most coaching sessions are about 30 minutes in length and can be done in person or even over the phone. Plus, the cost is terrific (at the present time, the coaching sessions have no fees). And, itís a plan personalized just for you. Itís one more way, at Hendricks Regional Health, we Treat People Better. And thanks to the beautiful new Hendricks Regional Health YMCA, it just got better!
